The release of women's productive potential is pivotal to breaking the cycle of poverty so that women can share fully in the benefits of development and in the products of their own labour.  Equitable social development that recognizes empowering the poor, particularly women, to utilize environmental resources is a necessary foundation for sustainable development.

MISSION STATEMENT

WODSTA is a not-for-profit women's NGO which works for gender equality, environmental conservation and sustainable livelihoods among women in Tanzania .

VISION STATEMENT

WODSTA envisions a society in which women are empowered, motivated and have equal opportunities with men.

AREAS OF OPERATION

WODSTA's areas of operation focus on addressing gender, environmental conservation, women's economic empowerment, appropriate technology, and sustainable development. This work is carried out through the following activities and projects:

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITIES

* The promotion, establishment and strengthening of sustainable women's groups among the marginalized groups of the pastoral Maasai and at the grassroots level.

* Economic empowerment at the grassroots level and with pastoral Maasai

* Promotion of environmental projects such as the Neem tree for medicinal use and for organic fertilizer.

* Gender and Development Education workshops in primary and secondary schools with emphasis on empowering the girl child.

* Working with women in rural and urban communities to identify community energy solutions while promoting the use of fuel efficient stoves and alternative energy technologies.

* Gender sensitization at the community level focusing on the status of women.

* Networking and collaboration for information and experience sharing on gender focused development.
